SECRETARY, DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES, MINISTRY OF FINANCE
Shri M. Nagaraju is a 1993-batch IAS officer (Tripura cadre) who took charge as Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, on 19 August 2024. At the Centre, he earlier served in the Department of Economic Affairs (2004–08) as Director in the Japan/North America and World Bank divisions, and then as Adviser to the Executive Director at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. (2008–12). He joined the Ministry of Coal as Joint Secretary in January 2020 and was promoted to Additional Secretary in November 2020. In the states, he has held secretary-level roles spanning tribal welfare, health, women & child development, finance, and industries & commerce. He is a University of Hyderabad alumnus and has been a visiting fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and a visiting research scholar at Stonehill College.
When a woman gains financial freedom, it sparks an infectious impact. The Jan Dhan Yojana has given rural women control over their finances and that independence is opening new doors not just for them, but for their daughters and the next generation.
